As it heats up in the UK we need to make sure we are still taking care of ourselves and our bodies.

Excessive heat, can seriously upset the body which can cause irritability, sleep problems, exhaustion and lack of concentration.

Food and drink play a very large part in making your body cool whilst staying healthy during the heat. Here are a few suggestions for the summer…

Salads: Big bowl of refreshing salad. Salads add fiber to the diet which reduces cholesterol and constipation. High fiber salads eaten before a meal tend to help you consume less of the higher calorie foods served afterward.

Cucumber: This crunchy vegetable costs little, has lots of fibre that can help keep constipation at bay. It can make each of your bites crunchier and help you stay cool as a cucumber!

Mint: Is cooling on the tongue and therefore tastes refreshing in hot weather.

Tzatziki: The Greek dip combines yoghurt and cucumber, which has a water content of about 96.4 per cent.

Bananas: Is a rich source of potassium. This helps to regulate body fluid lost through excessive sweating.

Coconut water: An inexpensive coconut is full of health benefits and has wonderful cooling properties. It is laden with simple sugars, electrolytes and essential minerals which help keep the body well hydrated.

Avocado: Are the fruits that are highest in monounsaturated fatty acids content at 20 percent, nourishing the yin in the blood. About 80 percent of its caloric content is easily digested, especially among other fats.

Plus don’t forget to drink lots and lots of water.
