Here at fitness flex bootcamps Basingstoke we know better than anyone that everyone who works hard during a workout will burn a significant amount of calories and sweat a lot, but why does it seem that men typically burn more calories vs a typical female even when training at the same intensity doing the same exercises?
We know most you have noticed this before so we wanted to give you a little insight as to why this is, and why you should never compare your efforts and results to other peoples! Because everyone works and responds differently because everyBODY is unique and comparison can be holding you back from achieving results.
Firstly, men typically have a higher muscle mass naturally which means at rest and during exercise their metabolism is faster than a females. However, total body mass also contributes to calories burnt at rest and in exercise, meaning that if someone is taller or “fatter” the more calories they will burn simply because it takes more energy in order to complete daily tasks and move around due to carrying the extra weight in comparison to a smaller framed human being.
So as you can see it is not actually gender specific as to who will burn more calories, however there are ways in which you can look to increase your calorie output.
1) Build more muscle mass – Both males and females can build muscle and ways in which you can do this in bootcamp could be to increase the weight you use on a regular basis, and slow down the reps to concentrate on your form if this is something you wish to do.
2) Control your calories in vs calories out – Ensure you are burning more calories than you consume at a sensible level, this way you will over time lose body mass, and require less energy in order to complete those daily tasks.
