Staying hydrated in the heat

Staying hydrated in the heat…

Its not often I can talk about having a mini heatwave in England however the weather the past week has been beautiful.

However, the heat does have an effect on our bodies which is why we must ensure we stay hydrated.

Start as you mean to go on, with a glass of water as soon as you wake up in the morning to kick start the day. Whether your working or enjoying the sunshine you should ensure you keep a bottle of fresh water with you so you can have a drink when ever you want.

You can also look to increase your intake of vegetables as they have a very high water content as well as many other health benefits (I will talk about in a future blog).

Did you know…Water is the main component of the human body. The body is actually composed of between 55% and 78% water (depending on your body size).

Here are some benefits of drinking water:

Relieves Fatigue

If you feel tired often then there is a high chance that it could be due to inadequate consumption of water which makes the body function less efficiently. Fatigue is actually one of the first signs of dehydration. Basically when the body less water, there is a drop of blood volume which causes the heart to work harder to pump oxygenated blood out in the bloodstream, and other major organs also work less efficiently.

Treats Headaches and Migraines

Do you suffer from headaches & migraines? Do you drink enough water? If you have a headache or migraine, the first thing that you can do to get some relief is drink plenty of water. Headaches and migraines are often caused by dehydration.

Helps in Digestion and Constipation

Water also improves the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract. This helps in digestion and also prevents constipation. Inadequate water in the body often results in constipation as the colon pulls water from the stools to maintain hydration, thereby making them harder and difficult to pass.

Flushes Out Toxins

Water is an excellent detoxifier as it helps flush out toxins from our bodies and get rid of waste primarily through sweat and urine.

Water can also promote kidney function and reduces kidney stones by diluting the salts and minerals in urine that cause kidney stones.
